Alex IV's Story

So...

I've had the baby. Alex Russ IV is a month old! But I owe some friends the story of his birth.

It was rather quick...

I went in on the Friday before Halloween to get set up for my induction that was scheduled the following Monday. I was having contractions so the nurse said I could go back to triage and get checked out. This would be my fourth time in triage.

The nurse checked me said I was a thin four centimeters, but was having few contractions so I could go home, but there was a chance I'd be back later that night.

I'd been told before that when the real contractions came I'd know the difference between the ones I'd been having. And I did; and I should have woke Alex up when they came at 4:30 in the morning. But the contractions were still pretty far apart so I just kept timing them. By 6:30, they were still fart apart, but they were very intense, so I called triage. They said the contractions was still far apart, but since they were so intense if I felt like I need to come in I should. Thirty minutes later I couldn't take it anymore, so I woke Alex up and we got our cousin to come pick up the girls.

We sped to the hospital and I could not even walk without Alex helping me. We got into triage and I had to get changed. I was in a lot of pain. Finally, the nurse checked me again. She looked up at Alex and said if we'd waited another thirty minutes we'd be delivering this baby at home.

They rushed me upstairs to labor and delivery. There was no time for an epidural. They had me pushing almost immediately. One of the nurses said it looked like it would take awhile for me to push the baby out. I sat up and looked at her and said, "Awhile?!?!" And she said yes unless I proved her wrong and pushed him out now. And so I did. He came in probably 15-20 minutes. It was scary and exciting and a whole bunch of emotions!
